Lizzo wants online body-shamers to put their money where their keyboard is. While vacationing somewhere beachy and warm, the “Truth Hurts” artist took time away from her getaway to address the way social media users talk about people’s bodies online. “The discourse around bodies is officially tired,” Lizzo told her followers in a video that was posted to TikTok and Instagram Reels. “The discourse is tired.”

She continued, “I have seen comments go from ‘Oh, my gosh, I liked you when you were thicc. Why’d you lose weight?’ to ‘Oh, my gosh, why’d you get a BBL? I liked your body before’ to ‘Oh, my gosh, you’re so big! You need to lose weight — but for your health!’ to ‘Oh, my gosh, you’re so little, you need to get ass or titties or something’ to ‘Oh my gosh, why did she get all that work done? It’s just too much work.’ Are we okay? Do you see the delusion?”

Lizzo then asked her followers to recognize that artists did not sign up to represent any individual’s ideal beauty standard. “Artists are here to make art,” Lizzo said. “And this body is art.”

The Yitty founder concluded her plea by asking everyone to “leave that shit” in the past. “I’m going to do whatever I want with this body,” she said. “I wish that comments costed you all money. So we can see how much time we are fucking wasting on the wrong thing.”

She’s right, and she should say it again… so she did. Lizzo captioned her video, “If we had to pay money for every comment we post on social media maybe people would think before they type.”
