While little is known about the plot of the film itself, it is rumored that it is to be a musical according to Polygon – which would make the casting of Lady Gaga, whose rendition of the song “Shallow” in 2018’s A Star Is Born won an Oscar, a genius choice.
Previously, the DC Comics character’s live-action film incarnation has been played by Margot Robbie, who has become synonymous with depicting Harley in the films Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. But last year it was announced that Gaga would be stepping into her shoes (well, heeled boots) to play the comic book hero in the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 Joker film. Harley, who is the titular character’s sidekick and love interest, will be a central character in the film.
And who else better to play her than Lady Gaga, whose acting credentials have long been established in her successive lead parts across both TV — in American Horror Story: Hotel, for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie) — and film, in 2018’s A Star is Born (for which she was nominated for best actress) and 2021‘s House of Gucci. We can’t wait to see her in her latest starring role – although it may have to involve some delayed gratification, as the film isn’t out until October 2024.
