The queen has arrived! After 25 years, Brandy is stepping back into Cinderella’s glass slippers and revisiting her role as the iconic Disney princess in the new Descendants movie, The Rise of Red, but this time she’s swapping the sweet updo and ballgown for a waist-length fishtail braid in bright Cinderella blue.
Both Brandy and her original Prince Charming, Paolo Montalban, are back to reprise their roles for the latest installment in the wildly popular Descendants franchise. It appears that the couple did get their happily ever after and became parents to daughter Chloe Charming, who is the star of the new movie. (Malia Baker stars as Chloe, and Rita Ora is set to play the Queen of Hearts.) In a new first look video shared by the official Descendants Instagram account, we get to see Brandy and Montalban in full costume as their ’90s alter egos and it was absolutely worth the wait. Oh, and it’s King Charming and Queen Cinderella now, thank you very much.
Brandy-as-Cinderella looks every inch the Auradon royal in her billowing ice blue gown with puffed sleeves and a train, but it’s her bright blue braid that really casts a spell. (Sorry.) The braid is extra-extra-long, extending all the way past her hips, and rightfully topped with a sparkling crown. She is the queen, after all. The pale blue theme also carries through to her makeup, as she wears a dusting of sapphire shadow alongside a pop of pink lipstick, very similar to the glam she wore in the beloved 1997 ABC movie. It’s a full circle moment and honestly, I’m a little emotional about it!
