Remember when black hair with neon-green roots was Billie Eilish’s thing for all of 2020 (and a little before and after)? The upkeep on a look like that is nothing to sneeze at, so we don’t blame anyone who loves the concept for trying a lower-maintenance take on it, like what Avril Lavigne did this week.
The singer, who’s been sporting a lob in 2023 after years of super-long hair, posted a few photos in which she’s added an edgy combination of black and neon green. But instead of all-black lengths with fluorescent roots, she took a subtler approach with black and green tips. The bulk of her hair is still its usual golden blonde.
Interestingly, slightly more recent Instagram Stories and photos taken at a Paris concert show that the two-tone tips are already gone. She either chopped off a couple of inches in the last day or so, or — more likely when you consider the before and after lengths — the color was either clipped in.
