New artwork for DC’s upcoming Black Adam depicts Dwayne Johnson suited up as the magic-wielding antihero.
Black Adam lands in theaters later this year, introducing Dwayne Johnson to the DCEU in the title role. In the comics, Black Adam has been both hero and villain, most notably appearing as an enemy of Shazam.
Shazam was recently played by Zachary Levi (in his superhero form) and Asher Angel (as Billy Batson) in 2019’s Shazam!. While Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam is not expected to appear in the upcoming sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods, it is likely the two will cross paths on the big screen at some point.
In the new promotional images recently released for Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson’s take on the character is depicted in a comic-book art style, homaging his roots in the pages of DC comics. The images also feature ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and a design evoking the Pyramids of Giza in a nod to the character’s ancient Egyptian origins. Check out the new images below:
The new images come ahead of the June 8th release of the film’s first trailer. The trailer release date was previously teased with an image shared by Dwayne Johnson on social media, again featuring him suited up as Black Adam. DC fans can expect to get a better idea of the film’s story when the trailer debuts next week.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, and Bodhi Sabongui are also on board in undisclosed roles.
Black Adam is set to hit theaters on October 22nd, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
