As well as playing Ms. Marvel, Iman Vellani is an avid MCU fan and the young actress recently shared her thoughts on a controversial moment from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Sam Raimi’s sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange pulled no punches when it came to shocking the audience. As well as having Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff take a terrifying villainous turn, the film introduced the Illuminati of Earth-838, consisting of some of the Marvel Universe’s greatest minds and most powerful characters – only for them to be quickly and gruesomely killed off by Wanda. The moment apparently did not earn the Ms. Marvel star’s seal of approval.

Amongst the members of Earth-838’s Illuminati was Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans. Anson Mount reprised the role of Black Bolt, after previously playing the Black Bolt of the MCU’s mainstream universe in the ill-fated Inhumans series. Black Bolt’s voice is one of the deadliest forces in the Marvel Universe, but in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda uses her powers to seal his mouth shut. The result is a horrifying death, when a startled yelp becomes trapped in Black Bolt’s head, echoing until it shatters his skull.

Iman Vellani, who makes her MCU debut this week in Ms. Marvel on Disney Plus, was not a fan of Black Bolt’s death. The actress has made her love of the MCU, even outside of her role in it, well known in the past. She even called out the Doctor Strange sequel for numbering the MCU’s main universe “616,” which Vellani points out is the designation for Marvel’s mainstream comic continuity – a separate continuity from that explored in the films.

Speaking to Elite Daily, Iman Vellani was asked about her thoughts on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While she praised director Sam Raimi, she also expressed her disappointment over Black Bolt’s death:

“I don’t care what anyone says. He’s my guy. I think they did him dirty. I did not appreciate that.”

Some fans will be pleased to hear Iman Vellani mirroring their own sentiments. After Inhumans broadly failed to do justice to Black Bolt and other Inhuman characters, seeing a fresh take on him in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gave many fans hope he would be better handled this time around, only for him to be brutally murdered. Hopefully though, the fan response to his appearance may inspire Marvel to revisit and revitalize the Inhumans of the MCU’s Earth-616. If it is Earth-616.
