Jacob Batalon, who appears as Ned Leeds in the MCU’s Spider-Man films, was recently asked about a possible villainous turn as the Hobgoblin in the as yet untitled Spider-Man 4.

Jacob Batalon has starred as Peter Parker’s best friend, Ned Leeds, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home, as well as brief appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The introduction of Ned to the MCU’s Spidey franchise marked a departure from the previous two Spider-Man film series, where Harry Osborn had traditionally been cast as Peter’s best friend. In the comics, Ned Leeds and Peter Parker became friends later in Peter’s life, when they worked together at the Daily Bugle newspaper.

Many fans are hoping to see Jacab Batalon’s version of Ned follow in the footsteps of his comic counterpart and become the villainous Hobgoblin. In the comics, Ned’s time as the Hobgoblin is a little complicated – he was in fact brainwashed by the real Hobgoblin, Roderick Kingsley, into believing he was the Hobgoblin. While he was therefore not the true Hobgoblin, this brainwashing led to Ned acting as the Hobgoblin under Kingsley’s influence. With Ned Leeds now appearing in Marvel’s Spider-Man movies, there seems to be a possibility of a version of this storyline – with or without Kingsley – being adapted.

However, Jacob Batalon is remaining tight-lipped on the subject. In a recent interview with Variety, the actor was asked about the possibility of becoming the villain in Spider-Man 4 but was reluctant to comment on any potential future for Ned. Check out his response:

“From all my years of working for Marvel, I feel like I’ve learned to just not say anything. I can’t really speak on things and then say something that might actually be true and then I ruin something, you know what I mean?”

Batalon seems to have learnt from his spoiler-prone co-star, Tom Holland. Fans will just have to wait and see if he dons the Hobgoblin mantle in Spider-Man 4.

Jacob Batalon can be seen as Ned Leeds in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here is the official synopsis:
