James Gunn, director of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy film series, recently took to social media to call out a fake casting call for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Nine9dotcom, an Instagram accounting claiming to share casting opportunities for actors, recently posted a supposed casting call for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on their story. The account, which is known to pressure hopeful actors into coughing up monthly fees for services they do not deliver, had apparently not bothered to do their research ahead of this particular con, as filming for the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie wrapped almost a month ago.

Taking to Twitter to call out the casting call scam, James Gunn shared an image of the offending Instagram post and clarified that production has wrapped on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The director called the post “disgusting” and said Nine9dotcom were “ripping people off & taking advantage of their dreams.” See the director’s tweet below:

James Gunn also shared the tweet from Twitter user @words_nik, who exposed the con artists’ method of pressuring people to make payments of $99 “plus monthly service fees” via Zoom calls. In response to a tweet from Nine9dotcom’s Twitter account, which talked about “A good director and actor relationship,” Gunn tweeted “Maybe you con artists shouldn’t be the ones talking about ‘good relationships’ with directors.”

It’s sad to see accounts such as this taking advantage of people’s aspirations. Hopefully James Gunn’s response will draw more attention to what these con artists are doing and prevent more people from falling for their scams.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming James Gunn film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
