Green Lantern writer Marc Guggenheim recently shared an update on the planned HBO Max series.

The Green Lantern series was among the first DC shows announced for HBO Max. Since then, we’ve gotten more information on who the series will follow, along with some casting. However, filming has yet to begin, with Alan Scott actor Jeremy Irvine recently sharing that there’s no start date for the series.

A Promising Update

Marc Guggenheim, who worked on the 2011 film, also serves as a writer on the HBO Max series. On the Hall of Justice podcast, Guggenheim provided a more hopeful update on the series:

First of all, I think it’s important to note that I’m not showrunning this show. So, I have even less license than normal to speak about it… I wish I could talk about it. It’s a really, really cool project. It’s obviously very near and dear to my heart… I can say that I’m — it’s funny, I’m working today, in fact, on the outline for the season finale. So, we’re working away.

Here is the official logline for the series:

From DC and HBO Max and Berlanti Productions comes a bold adaptation of the iconic comic book franchise: A saga spanning decades and galaxies. GREEN LANTERN will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott—Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man—and many more. The series will also include fan favorites such as Sinestro and Killowog, as well as introduce new heroes to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.

In addition to a Green Lantern series, HBO Max is also developing a Strange Adventures DC anthology series, a DC Super Hero High show from Elizabeth Banks, a Penguin spin-off starring Colin Farrell, and an Arkham Asylum series also set in the world of The Batman.

News of the series arrived shortly after reports of HBO Max planning to produce DC projects with budgets on par with those of feature films.
