A new clip from the upcoming film, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore has finally confirmed the iconic mentor wizard’s relationship with Grindelwald.

Way back in 2007, J.K. Rowling wrapped up her work on the original Harry Potter books. During one of the many interviews she gave, someone asked about Dumbledore’s sexuality. Throughout the series, we never see the character with any children of his own nor any love interests. That’s when she dropped a bombshell about Dumbledore’s relationship with Grindelwald.

In the Wizarding World lore, Dumbledore’s big claim to fame was him taking down Grindelwald who, before the rise of Voldemort, was considered to be the most dangerous wizard of all time. In the interview J.K. Rowling admitted that she always thought of Dumbledore as gay and in love with his eventual nemesis, making the relationship all the more tragic. Some were beginning to wonder, however, if we would ever see this relationship pop up in the Fantastic Beasts films.

In the Fantastic Beasts films, Dumbledore is something of an enigma. He relies on Newt Scamander to do most of his heavy lifting for him against Grindelwald for reasons that are not clear until the end of the second film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In it, it was revealed that the two had made a blood pact that prevented them from harming one another, but the scene where it was made suggested that there was also something more intimate going on between the two. Now it appears we finally have proof that this was the case.

Earlier trailers had indicated that the two battlings would be at the forefront of the film but now it seems the battle will be personal. Earlier this week, Warner Bros released a new video for the film which shows an extended meeting between Dumbledore and Grindelwald where the former confesses that he was in love with the latter. Here is the synopsis for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore:

Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

Directed by David Yates from a screenplay written by J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves, the film stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, William Nadylam, Poppy Corby-Tuech, Jessica Williams, Jude Law, and Mads Mikkelsen.
