According to Halle Berry, awards show season means new hairstyles. At the 2021 People’s Choice Awards back in December, the actor paid homage to the early aughts with some side-swept bangs and a tousled updo. Now, almost three months later, Berry is back with a completely different hairstyle for the 2022 Critics Choice Awards, which took place on March 13.

The actor’s new hair is styled into a pixie/undercut hybrid. It’s highlighted blonde at the very top layers but fades into dark brown at the root. Berry’s go-to hairstylist, Sara Seward, is behind this latest haircut, which the actor shared on Instagram. The image she used shows her holding her Critics’ Choice “See Her” award, which honors women who promote gender equality and empowerment through their work.

“Our voice is the most powerful tool we have, and it’s imperative that we stand up and use it,” she shares in her Instagram post. “Here’s to every person who has felt diminished, misunderstood, marginalized, and discounted. Now is the time for all of us to stand up, stand united, and have our voices heard.”

Of course, Berry’s been a pixie cut girl for a long time. The actor famously wore a different version of the close-cropped cut throughout the ’90s, but has been playing more with length over the past few decades. In 2016, after a long hiatus, she brought back the crop, this time with longer face-framing layers.

We love to see that the actor is returning to the hairstyle she knows best — but with an edgier twist. Berry looks beautiful in pretty much any hairstyle, but there’s something about the short hair on her that is just absolute magic.

If the actor’s new style has got you thinking about chopping your own strands, we’ve got a ton of short haircut ideas right here.
