Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has crossed the $900 million mark at the global box office.
After a month since it first premiered in theaters, Marvel Studios’ newest film Doctor Strange int he Multiverse of Madness has crossed a new box office milestone. The Benedict Cumberbatch sequel has crossed the $900 million mark globally.
In its fifth weekend at the US domestic box office, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness grossed $9.3 million, and $11.4 million internationally. This brings the U.S. total to $388.7 million domestically and $520.7 million internationally, with a global total of $909.4 million. The film currently stands as the highest-grossing film of 2022.
Whether or not this sequel crosses the $1 billion mark remains to be seen, but given increased competition with Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion, reaching that milestone may be pretty difficult. Also, the film is set to hit Disney+ later this month, which will also effect ticket sales somewhat. Either way, Marvel Studios’ latest is still the #1 film at the 2022 box office thus far, at least for now.
Here is the synopsis for the film:
The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, the film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, and Patrick Stewart.
