Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Angela Bassett claims the upcoming sequel will best the first film.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is undoubtedly one of the most channeling projects for Marvel Studios to date, and for different reasons too. The biggest is due to the passing of Chadwick Boseman, but production has also faced some hurdles with Letitia Wright’s injury. Angela Bassett is one of the stars that returned for Wakanda Forever, and she had this to say about the upcoming film on The Ellen DeGeneres Show:

“It’s going to be amazing. It’s going to top [the first] one. Can I say that?”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever topping the first film would be a tall order, not just because of the absence of Chadwick Boseman, but because the first is also the one and only Marvel Studios film to receive a Best Picture nomination. Angela Bassett went on to praise director Ryan Coogler’s leadership throughout the difficult production:

“He was such an example, such a leader, an amazing talent — we all know that. Big heart, great intellect, and we just hope to raise his standard.”

Here is the synopsis for the first film:

After the death of his father, the king of Wakanda, young T’Challa returns home to the isolated high-tech African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king – and Black Panther – is tested when he’s drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, he must release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on July 8, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
